Our mission

Legal protection shouldn't cost £400 an hour

Contracts are signed every day by people who don't fully understand what they're agreeing to. ContractChecker exists for the moments when that matters.

The problem
The language isn't complicated by accident.

Most contracts are written by lawyers representing one side — not yours. Ambiguity protects whoever controlled the drafting. The person on the other side is usually reading under time pressure, with no reason to know which clauses are standard and which should give them pause.

Unlimited liability clauses
Can expose a freelancer to a claim worth far more than they were ever paid — often buried in boilerplate as standard language.
Auto-renewal traps
A clause buried in the final paragraph that locks you in for another year you didn't ask for and can't easily exit.
Overbroad non-competes
Clauses that go far beyond what's legally enforceable in the UK — and employers count on people not knowing that.

Why I built this

Hi, I'm James, a law student at Exeter University. Throughout my study of contract law, it became quite clear to me that lawyers are taught to write contracts that are a minefield for non-lawyers. Often filled with legal jargon and extremely specific definitions, it's no surprise that people get caught out by clauses they never even realised they were agreeing to.

This of course forces small business owners and others to use lawyers who often charge extortionate fees for an hour's work. I want to make a change in the profession of law — and for that reason I built ContractChecker. My aim is to make legal analysis (not legal advice) accessible to the people who really need it.

I've developed an AI model that is extremely accurate and very capable of analysing contracts. I hope you find it helpful. Feel free to get in touch at hello@contractchecker.uk.

Our principles
What we stand for.
Honest about limitations
ContractChecker is not legal advice. AI analysis is a starting point, not a final word. We say this clearly, every time.
Privacy by design
Contract text is never stored after analysis. We don't sell data, log your contracts, or profile users.
Genuinely useful output
The analysis is substantively accurate, not just reassuring. We use capable AI and give you real, actionable recommendations.
Accessible pricing
Three free checks, no account required. Pro at £19/month. Legal protection shouldn't be means-tested.
