Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

ContractChecker ("we", "us", "our") is operated from the United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the purposes of UK GDPR. You can contact us at hello@contractchecker.uk.

2. What data we collect

Contract text. When you use the analysis tool, the contract text you paste is transmitted to our servers and to our AI processing partner to generate your analysis. This text is not stored after your analysis is complete. We do not retain copies of contracts submitted by users.

Usage data. We store a usage counter in your browser's local storage to track how many free analyses you have used. This data lives only in your browser and is never transmitted to our servers.

Technical data. Our hosting provider (Netlify) may collect standard server logs including IP addresses, browser type, and pages visited. This is standard infrastructure logging and is governed by Netlify's own privacy policy.

Communications. If you contact us by email, we will retain that correspondence to respond to your query.

3. How we use your data

We use the data we collect solely for the following purposes:

• Providing the contract analysis service you requested
• Responding to enquiries and support requests
• Maintaining the security and performance of the Service
• Complying with legal obligations

We do not use your contract text to train AI models. We do not use your data for marketing purposes. We do not sell your data to any third party.

4. Legal basis for processing

Under UK GDPR, we rely on the following legal bases:

• Contract performance — processing your contract text is necessary to provide the analysis service you requested
• Legitimate interests — for standard server logging necessary to maintain service security and performance
• Legal obligation — where we are required to process data to comply with applicable law

5. Third party processors

We use the following third party services to operate ContractChecker:

• Anthropic — our AI analysis provider. Contract text is transmitted to Anthropic's API to generate analysis. Anthropic's privacy policy governs their handling of this data. Anthropic does not use API data to train their models by default.
• Netlify — our hosting provider. Standard server logs may be retained by Netlify in accordance with their privacy policy.

We do not share your data with any other third parties.

6. Data retention

Contract text submitted for analysis is not retained after the analysis is generated. Email correspondence is retained for as long as necessary to resolve your query and for a reasonable period thereafter. Server logs are retained in accordance with Netlify's standard retention periods.

7. Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Right of access — you can request a copy of personal data we hold about you
• Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct inaccurate data
• Right to erasure — you can ask us to delete personal data we hold about you
• Right to restriction — you can ask us to limit how we use your data
• Right to object — you can object to processing based on legitimate interests
• Right to data portability — you can request your data in a portable format

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe we have handled your data unlawfully.

8. Cookies

ContractChecker does not use tracking cookies. We use browser local storage solely to remember your free analysis usage count. This is functional only and does not track you across websites.

9. Children

ContractChecker is not directed at children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page with a revised date. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
